Title of the thesis “Gosner stages of development and metamorphosis in the toad, Bufo melanostictus (Schn.) and its developmental anatomy from two-cell stage to neural tube stage”
Research Identified different stages of development and the metamorphosis in the anuran amphibians.
Maintained adults as well as embryos & larvae of anuran amphibians in the laboratory conditions. Histological techniques like, fixation, paraffin sectioning, staining, microtomy etc, for studying the developmental anatomy of amphibian embryos were practiced. Described 3 dimensional structures of amphibian embryos, by observing the series of histological sections of the embryos. Fabricated some new devices useful in histological processing and photomicrography; repaired and modified optical instruments like microscopes, photomicrography camera, etc., according to the needs of the research work. The “zebra fish”- a favourite model system in vertebrate developmental biology research, was introduced for the first time, in research laboratories of the department of zoology, Karnatak University, Dharwad, Guided M.Sc. students in carrying out a most impressive demonstration, of live chick development, in Golden Jubilee Year Exhibition of Karnatak University, Dharwad.
Field experience
Conducted several field trips in western Ghats of India under the DST sponsored project on anuran amphibians (also working as field assistant in the project, for a short duration). The project had been sanctioned to the department of zoology, Karnatak University, Dharwad. Since high school days to date: Acquainted with rescuing hundreds of poisonous and non poisonous snakes, from different human habitations by capturing and releasing them in the wild; Made the people to know about snakes and their conservation.
Hobbies and Interests
Nature exploration and conservation (especially animal and plant life); Reading different kinds of science subjects, short stories, etc. ; Animal welfare (to fight against the cruelty to animals); Teaching challenging fields of life science like biotechnology, genetics, developmental biology, animal cell culture, microbiology, molecular biology etc especially at under graduate and graduate level; Constructing models and developing techniques to teach complex science subjects; Using teaching aids to the maximum benefits in teaching science; Enjoying music, dances, songs, painting, historical places etc.
